Financial crisis taking new turn
The onset of the financial crisis is taking a new turn. The collapse of Lehmann Bros has unexpectedly led to losses in investment funds on money markets, giving rise to mass sales and reinvestment in short-term Treasuries.
These sales are a last resort in order to maintain market liquidity and security. As a result, the rates of return on Treasuries have fallen to their lowest level since 1941.
